SHORT STORY " i can jump "

I read this comic earlier today by chance. It really made me stop and ponder while scrolling through my Instagram feed.

Some thoughts I had on this comic:

  • Parents set you up to succeed where they failed.
  • Sometimes our victories can lead to losses. You have to choose what matters to you if you ever want to succeed at anything.
  • I found it interesting that the artist took special care to note the passing of seasons in the background of each panel. Not entirely sure of the meaning, but I’m sure there’s a point.
  • The original person, from the first panel, settled right at the edge of his biggest and in the end, insurmountable, challenge. Again, poignant in a way.
  • Defeats can often lead to fulfilling “victories.” If the person had been able to make the jump at the beginning of the comics, he wouldn’t have met his partner or have his son.
  • Themes: Coping with a loss/tragedy, growing up, making the best of things.

I think this was a very creative comic, which in just a few small panels, utilizing a video game-like style, was able to communicate universal messages. Props to the artist who created it!
